History of the Lynde Point Lighthouse

Discover the rich history of the Lynde Point Lighthouse, a notable Connecticut lighthouse established in 1838, recognized as a significant historic maritime site. Learn about its vital role in guiding ships safely along the Connecticut coastline at the mouth of the Connecticut River. This area is protected by two lighthouses—the outer lighthouse and the majestic inner lighthouse. My father, who served as a Search & Rescue member of the United States Coast Guard, manned this grand inner lighthouse. He and my mother met on Fisher's Island, married, and lived in the lighthouse keeper's quarters, where she also has deep family roots in New England. I spent my childhood at the Lynde Point Lighthouse and frequently visited during family vacations, fostering a lasting connection to this cherished American Lighthouse Foundation landmark.

Preserving Lynde Point Lighthouse

Your contribution enables us to restore the Lynde Point Lighthouse, a historic maritime site, to its former glory. This project, supported by the American Lighthouse Foundation, will provide temporary housing for the Coast Guard and their families close to the Coast Guard Academy. By improving housing options, we are giving back to those who protect and serve our country, while also preserving one of the notable Connecticut lighthouses in the New England region.

The sea wall at the historic maritime site of the Connecticut lighthouse needs to be rebuilt. This is a one-time cost. There will be a $5000.00 per year inspection and maintenance cost, which is significantly less than the $500,000.00 expense every twenty years for maintaining other New England lighthouses, as supported by the American Lighthouse Foundation.
